SIUC Housing
The big idea was to create privacy through vertical zoning; different levels result in different amounts of privacy - the bottom level (underground) is the most private, the middle is the least private (ground level) and the top is in semi-private (nine foot elevation). The main form giver was inspired by subtraction, starting with rectangular forms and eliminating pieces. The exploration of material and geometry was focused on balancing natural light and views out with privacy and seclusion for the occupants.
