capstone: study cafe | spring 2018
Planning and designing a large scale community space located in St. Louis, MO. This project is a study cafe designated to the needs of each individual study type. Using research and evidence to produce spaces that maximize productivity and ability to retain information, while also including spaces to de-stress, rejuvenate and connect with the community.
NEXT medical office | fall 2017
Steelcase's 2017 NEXT Student Design Competition - planning and designing a medical office space using a program from the fictitious client NEXT; The challenge was to create a workplace environment for the future that pushes the envelope, meets the program objectives and represent what is next within the medical office. This project was announced the 5th annual Grand Prize Winner.
counseling office | fall 2017
Studying CET Designer by building an existing floor plan into the program and choosing the furniture, layout and materials of the space. These selections needed to accommodate the fictitious client and occupants. This image was entered into a student rendering competition for CET Designer and was announced second place.
pop-up shop | spring 2017
Working with clients from the Fashion and Merchandising program to design a space for displaying their gamer apparel. The challenge was to create a small space that showcases their products effectively while reflecting their brand. This design was for the client Remnant; their brand image was dark, raw and mysterious, with the tag line "awaken the warrior within."
student dining | spring 2017
A renovation of Southern Illinois University Carbondale's student center dining hall. We were assigned one of three areas of dining and had to recreate the space to intrigue students to utilize the student center more. The client asked that we keep as much existing furniture as possible and do little construction to the space; meaning that most renovations were done with materials and layout.
artist residence | fall 2016
A place of residence for the artist Jun Inoue and family that overlooks the Meijer Botanical Gardens in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This home needed to accommodate an art studio, a gallery and an extended family suite. All design decisions were made considering the artist Inoue's personality, love of nature and style while reflecting the modern feel of his artwork.
micro apartments | fall 2016
A group of six micro apartments on the second floor of a business in Murphysboro, Illinois. These apartments were designed for one or two residents, considering the potential of guests. The site was visited by the class to take exact measurements of the spaces - rooms were very small and the challenge was to create a functional home in the limited that feels open and inviting.
timber in the city | spring 2016
Working with a group of three other students to design an Andy Warhol museum, open market and apartment complex in four city blocks of New York City. The focus of this project was the architectural shape, structure and features, as the challenge was to design these buildings using only timber structure.
shotgun house | spring 2016
Working with a group of two other students to design a polyvalent shotgun home located in Carbondale IL. In order to accommodate different family sizes and growing families, the home needed to be flexible and adaptable to new changes. Several studies were done on shading techniques to avoid the harsh sunlight.
siuc housing | fall 2015
A group of six small scale residential units that are available for scholars who come to visit the Southern Illinois university campus. Because of the amount of pedestrian traffic and the location of the site, the challenge was to ensure privacy for the residents without eliminating their views and natural lighting
